Advances made to particle detectors at CERN and elsewhere have continuously fuelled new developments in medical imaging.
Medipix3 is a CMOS pixel detector readout chip designed to be connected to a segmented semiconductor sensor. In addition to counting every particle hitting the pixels, it permits colour imaging and dead time free operation.
To overcome limitations in spatial resolution of gamma cameras, the Crystal Clear Collaboration at CERN has developed and patented a technology for a gamma camera based on a double layer LSO/LuYAP crystal detector (PHOSWICHconfiguration).
The technology merges the state of the art of Micro Pattern Gas Detector and Resistive Plate Chamber to provide a new class of detectors providing high rate capability and simultaneously providing sub nanosecond time resolution.
The ever-increasing magnetic fields required to achieve the desired energies in colliders like the LHC and in the Future Circular Collider, are the main drivers for developing superconducting cable technology. Two technology synergies are emerging: high-field Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and "smart" superconducting grids.
