The FabNS–CERN Venture Connect Partnership: The Porto System and the Single-Frequency Raman Laser for Nano-Raman Spectroscopy

FabNS is a Brazilian deep tech company specializing in scientific instrumentation for optical characterization of materials. The company explores optomechanical and precision engineering, control electronics, signal-processing systems, and critical software for instrument operation and data treatment, applied to high-end spectroscopy and scanning probe microscopy. Its flagship product, the nano-Raman Porto system, integrates confocal Raman spectroscopy with scanning probe microscopy in a platform engineered for the demanding, optical, electronic, and metrological requirements of nano-scale vibrational spectroscopy. This presentation introduces FabNS and the Porto system, a nano-Raman platform, in technical depth, covering the architectural philosophy, optomechanical, electronic, and validated performance of the system across representative application cases. The second part of the talk addresses the FabNS–CERN Venture Connect partnership and the planned integration of the CERN single-frequency Raman laser into the nano-Raman platform. The discussion focuses on the compatibility argument: how the specific properties of the tunable Raman laser respond to the demanding requirements that nano-Raman spectroscopy places on its excitation source, and where this matching produces advantages over conventional alternatives. The talk closes with a forward-looking discussion of the partnership as a platform collaboration, in which the integrated nano-Raman is the first instance of a broader co-development horizon that includes TERS-specific developments and possible adaptations of the tunable Raman laser architecture to further applications.
