Industrial-grade Software for Energy Optimization of Cooling and Ventilation Plants

The goal of this project is to develop an "Industrial-grade Software for Energy Optimization of Cooling and Ventilation Plants," based on novel algorithms developed in EN-CV. Specifically tailored to seamlessly retrofit into existing HVAC control systems, the control systems optimization software aims to dynamically fine-tune operational parameters, utilizing real-time sensory feedback. In its preliminary phase for LHC cooling towers, the software has achieved 60% annual electricity savings (about 400 kCHF across six distinct plants). Spanning over 3 years (divided into four deliverables) the project’s broader vision is to roll out a universally adaptable software solution suitable for various industrial contexts, such as manufacturing plants, data centres, commercial buildings and hospitals, promising dual benefits of substantial energy conservation and cost reductions without necessitating extensive infrastructure overhauls. The first deliverable is a co-financed effort with Politecnico di Milano (PoliMi), and discussions with potential industry partners are underway.
